Support Deputy Maness/Family

This is a post that is not related to the mortgage business but I felt like I needed to spread the word. This happened about 3 miles from my house.

officer

My name is Lauren, and as many of you may know I am the step-daughter of Deputy Maness; the male officer was shot and put in critical condition on Thursday morning.  Being a cops daughter is one of the hardest, but most proud thing a person can be. When a situation like this occurs, all you can do is reach out. I would love to lift some of his stress so he can focus on his recovery and my mom can worry about helping him.

If you are not aware of the situation, early Thursday morning police responded to a call in Holiday Hills. Two officers were shot after attempting to speak with the homeowner.  Khalia was rushed to Centegra in McHenry, and my step father Dwight was rushed the Condell in critical/serous condition after being shot twice.  After a standoff of multiple hours, a manhunt began to find the “armed and extremely dangerous” shooter.  He was later found around 6 pm.

Dwight is a 20 year veteran Army Ranger, part of the SWAT team, and a 7 year McHenry County Deputy Sheriff. Aside from that, he is an amazing father, husband, and friend.

The female officer Khalia has thankfully already been released from the hospital.  On the other hand, Dwight was shot twice, once in the back just missing his spine, and once in the back of the leg. The bullet entered the back of his leg, and exited from the front, severing a vein and shattered his entire femur.

He is still in the Intensive Care Unit, and will remain there until he undergoes his next surgery this coming week.  It will be at least 4 months before pressure is able to be applied to the leg, so close to a year of rehab before he goes back to work. This time is going to be extremely tough on our family financially, with bills, my mother taking time off of work, the holidays, etc.

It would mean more to me than I could explain if anyone could be generous enough to give even a dollar to help lift his spirits and help us through this time and take some stress off of Dwight.  He is an amazing man and deserves the world.  His spirits are incredibly broken right now, and even in the hospital he is already talking about the financial situation.  The community has been amazing thus far and the entire waiting room is filling with flowers for him and phone calls day and night.

Please keep us in your thoughts, and don’t forget to thank a cop.

Thank you.
